MYOGLOBIN
Myoglobin is a hemoprotein present in cardiac and skeletal muscle cells and is released into blood circulation when these cells are damaged. Myoglobin determination is used to monitor muscular injuries and as an aid to diagnosis of myocardial infraction. Increased levels of myoglobin also occur in conditions associated with myopathies, muscular dystrophy, strong physical exercise, kidney insufficiency or rhabdomyolysis.
