HAPTOGLOBIN
Haptoglobin is an acute phase protein whose primary function consists in binding free hemoglobin in serum. Increased haptoglobin level is associated with acute phase reaction (inflammations, infections, injury, malignancy, burns), acute myocardial infarction (in first phase) and cancer. Decreased haptoglobin level may be presented in severe liver disease, hepatocellular disorders, hemolytic syndrome, malnutrition, ineffective erythropoiesis and in late pregnancy.
