The sum of the iron and unsaturated iron binding capacity (UIBC) represents total iron binding capacity (TIBC). Elevated values of UIBC may indicate on iron deficiency. Additionally, decreased values of UIBC can be associated with anemia of chronic diseases with a decrease in serum iron.
