RHEUMATOID FACTOR
Rheumatoid factor (RF) is an autoantibody against human IgG commonly seen in sera at a high concentration in some conditions, particularly in patients with rheumatoid arthritis. Determination of RF level in serum and plasma is mainly used as an aid in the diagnosis of clinical conditions associated with abnormal RF levels. Increased RF levels may be associated with rheumatoid arthritis, systemic connective tissue diseases, chronic inflammatory liver diseases, chronic inflammatory lung diseases, cancers (especially leukemia and colon cancer) and in the course of infection (e.g. influenza, AIDS, tuberculosis, syphilis, brucellosis, salmonellosis, leprosy, malaria, viral hepatitis, mononucleosis, subacute endocarditis).
