LIPASE
Lipase is a digestive enzyme secreted by pancreas and salivary glands responsible for triglycerides breakdown. The increased lipase activity in serum or plasma is characteristic for pancreas diseases. It concerns acute and chronic pancreatitis, pancreatic tumors or pancreatic involvement in the course of diseases within the abdominal cavity. Increased level of lipase activity may be helpful in the diagnosis of renal failure, intestinal obstruction and peritonitis.
