COMPLEMENT C3
Complement is a group immunologically distinct proteins present in blood and tissues. They are able to interact with antigen-antibody complexes, with each other and with cell membranes, in a complex way intended at destroying viruses and bacteria. Determinations of complement C3 level in serum and plasma are mainly used as an aid in the diagnosis of severe and recurrent bacterial infections, especially with enveloped and pyogenic bacteria. Low values of complement C3 are also used as aid in the diagnosis of vasculitis and glomerulonephritis.
