CERULOPLASMIN
Determinations of ceruloplasmin levels in serum are used as an aid to diagnosis of Wilson disease and copper metabolism disorders. Decreased ceruloplasmin levels can be observed in Menkes disease, dietary copper deficiency, enteropathies, severe liver damage, cirrhosis, nephrotic syndrome. High values of ceruloplasmin may occur in inflammatory and necrotic processes, cholestasis, cardiovascular diseases and some malignancies. Increased values of ceruloplasmin are also observed during pregnancy and during use of oral contraceptives.
